Eh, well here are a couple poems I wrote a few years back. I have some short stories somewhere... just gotta find them.
-------------------------------
by Daniel L. Oestreich
From shadows and dust forming a swirled haze
As the sun peers through and spreads her grace
All nooks and crannies are filled with light
While the creatures of nocturne flee for their homes
And the animals of day are just starting to roam
As children are warmed by the sun's great might
Flitting on a breeze, soaring high, their kites
The dew of the morning is lifting at last
This signifies a new day, and of leaving the past
For the night has gone, all its darkness and cold
The foundations of heart are set firmly in the stone
Of an elegant palace that we shall call our own
A blazing hearth that will keep us warm when we're old
From where we'll watch our children as their lives unfold
For now, my dear love, it is as it will
The lives set before us is but a churn of the mill
While thoughts escape from my mind and make it perilous to speak
Lest the rapids of fate sweep us off towards the cliffs
Such an unyielding gauntlet of panic that has created this rift
Though to push ever forward on this journey I must keep
To be together as one is all that I seek

by Daniel L. Oestreich
The bleeding tides are crashing, upon the shores of war
We slowly close our brothers' eyes as they will see no more
Our breathing comes more painfully as our hearts are filled with dread
We will never fear what is to come while blood must still be shed
And though our duty scars us, as deep as the veins of the earth
It's a duty we've known that was meant for us, ever since our birth
So now we are pushing forward, with our fallen upon our backs
As the fog rolls in and clouds our eyes, we are never looking back.
Descending down upon us, they come as quick as light
A storm of flames and thunder, that illuminates the night
Our adrenaline is rushing, our pulses beating in our minds
This hell is raining down before us, it's come, it's here, our time
Reacting without thinking, cold sweat beading on our face
We strike back and unleash a hell, the likes that have never seen this place
The silence that ensues is deafening, every cell on full alert
Then blood trickles down between my eyes, and all I see is dirt.
We're the warriors of our time, Battling shadows fleeting.
Yet in the recesses of our minds, are the echoes of our mothers' singing.
And now I look out to see the sun rise, across the ocean vast
Blinking once to clear my eyes, I look back into my past
Not once do I regret the things I've done for reasons untold
Though part of me is still yearning for the chance to have grown old
Though past is that, I only care, my letter you do receive
I want you to know, that I died, fighting for what I believe.
